These guys must've read my mind. The PED3 is exactly the type of mount I've been looking for. If you own an iPhone/iPod, you know that holding it for a long period of time can give you claw hands. This is the best solution I've seen so far. The PED3 Auto comes with a suction cup mount so you can install it in your car as well.
