Wow, looks like Rogers finally updated the sluggish interface for their On Demand service. I took some screen shots today...error screen and all. I've been waiting for an upgrade and complaining about the functionality for years so I have to say I was excited to see a change but disappointed with this new design. Some of thing I disliked about the previous version that isn't addressed in this upgrade is the lack of a visuals, i.e. movie poster as you scroll through the movies. In the past, the font was huge that they had to truncate most movie titles, leaving you guessing or spending an extra selection to find out what the movie was...you know just how frustrating that can be. In general there were just too many selections to get anywhere, not bad if it responded quickly, but at its snail's pace, every selection counts.
So on the newer and better, right? Well, I'll ignore certain bugs I found, since they only just launched. Although a company the size of Rogers should have done extensive testing before going live. What did they get right? Rogers definitely increased the response speed which was painfully slow in the past. Adding colour and a higher resolution is...well, you should've had that years ago...finally, live video helps to give it some life.
On the other hand, why did they create a default landing screen where the only option is to enter? Is this meant to serve another purpose in the future? Maybe for announcements or promotions? Right now the main screen is just pointless. Next, as mentioned before, there are still no movie posters on selecting or after selecting a movie. There is however a large "M" logo everywhere. They are wasting a 1/4 of the screen real estate on the OnDemand logo, which should either be gone or sized down significantly. Finally whatever Rogers did during this update turned my TMN channels 301-305 into a blank black screen...please fix, thanks!
